I too have had the exact same problem with attempting to apply the latest Disk Director 12 Update 3270 - amd have discovered the cause of my problems - with a very simple solution.

* Just to update with what I watched the microsoft support tech run and what happened when he did - the hotfix he ran was called "VS80sp1-KB2643995-IA64-INTL.exe" which is a 2005 MVS hotfix, and when running it it said "The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program. I did point out that I'd been sent to him by acronis support and showed him the article, and he just reiterated that this can only be fixed by Acronis. So I've just had a remote support session with a microsoft support tech who checked my c++ thingies were all up to date and working, downloaded their hotfix* onto my system, and, after running it and seeing the results, told me that the Disk Director 12 application needs to be updated to work correctly, and that I need to get in touch with acronis support.
